Moving in Aargau – from Aarau to Baden, at a clear guide price

Aargau occupies the north-eastern part of the Swiss Plateau and extends northwards to the Rhine, which here also forms the border with Germany. At the end of 2025 the canton had 735,808 inhabitants. With 524 people per square kilometre, it has the fifth-highest population density of the 26 cantons. Jura hills in the north, moraines in the south

The northern part of the canton was shaped by the folding of the Jura mountains, the southern part by the glaciers of the ice ages. Aargau reaches its highest point on the Geissflue ridge at 908 m above sea level. Terminal moraines near Killwangen, Mellingen, Seon or Würenlos still show how far the Reuss and Linth glaciers once reached. The Seon moraine also dammed Lake Hallwil, which at the end of the ice age was about twice as large as it is today.

Where the Aare, Reuss and Limmat meet

At the Wasserschloss (the confluence known as the «water castle»), the largest rivers of the Swiss Plateau come together: in quick succession the Reuss and the Limmat flow into the Aare in the Vogelsang district of Gebenstorf, and the Aare finally joins the Rhine at Koblenz.
