Getting to know Seon
Moving company Seon: the largest village in the Aargau Seetal
The name reveals a lot about the location. «Seon» goes back to the Old High German «ze sēwun», «by the lake places». Lake Hallwil, now four kilometres away, may have reached as far as the terminal moraine by the village in the early Middle Ages. This moraine still shapes Seon today: it closes off the valley in a semicircle and roughly marks the edge of the built-up area to the west and north.
Valley floor, moraine hills, ridge
West of the village, a wooded ridge separates the Seetal from the Wynental. On Seon's territory it lines up, from north to south, the Schürberg, Breitenberg, Seenerberg, Surberg and Bampf; at 607 m above sea level the Bampf is the municipality's highest point. The lowest lies at 415 m on the Aabach, which winds its way through a small hollow between the moraine hills.

Retterswil, the hamlet to the south
Retterswil lies about one and a half kilometres south of the village centre. The hamlet used to be an autonomous Steckhof (self-governing estate) of the Lords of Hallwyl, came to Seon in 1751, became a municipality of its own again after 1805 and was finally incorporated in 1899. Industrial heritage on the Aabach
Until well into the 19th century Seon was a farming village; then numerous smaller businesses harnessed the water power of the Aabach. From that period the spinning mill of 1823 and the cotton weaving mill of 1834 still stand today; the late Gothic mill in the Unterdorf was built as early as around 1600. On 15 October 1883 the Seetalbahn railway reached Seon with the Lenzburg–Beinwil am See section.
