Moving to the Netherlands
From Switzerland to the Netherlands – with an inventory list and proof of residence
Dutch customs (Douane) exempts household goods (verhuisgoederen) from import duties if you are moving from a non-EU country and meet the conditions. A signed inventory list and proof of taking up residence, for example municipal registration, are required.
According to the Douane, the declaration is made via a moving or transport company. We plan the route through Germany with a fixed date; in Switzerland, we take care of end-of-tenancy cleaning and disposal.

Customs and formalities
Customs when moving to the Netherlands: what the authorities require
The Dutch Douane lists the following for the exemption:
Export from Switzerland
- Inventory list: at the export customs office, an inventory list with your addresses in Switzerland and abroad is sufficient (BAZG).
- Vehicles: register separately for export, with a copy of the Swiss vehicle registration document.
- Municipality: Deregister with your previous municipality of residence.
Import into the Netherlands (douane.nl)
- Residence: at least 12 consecutive months outside the EU.
- Ownership: goods owned and in use for at least 6 months.
- Import: within 12 months of settling.
- Restriction period: not to be lent, pledged, rented out or transferred for 12 months.
- Documents: signed inventory list and proof of taking up residence.

I was very satisfied with the moving services and the cleaning work. The furniture was properly packed and handled with care.
