    Process

Removals to the canton of Jura in 7 steps, prepared for language and logistics

Between the Delémont basin, the Ajoie and the Freiberge, both language and roads change. These steps show how we set up your move to the Jura.

    1. 01

      Free viewing

We look at your current flat, discuss the new address in the Jura and then determine the vehicle, crew and schedule for the quote.

    2. 02

      Parking space with the municipality

If the van has to stand on public land, we submit the application to your Jura municipality; the office invoices you for the cost.

    3. 03

      Label in two languages

It is best to label the free boxes with the destination room in German and French, so that everyone finds their way at the new address.

    4. 04

      Loading and protection

Before the first piece of furniture we cover floors, lift and stairwell; our carpenters dismantle wardrobes and beds directly in the old flat.

    5. 05

      Route via the A16

We choose the route to suit the vehicle's height, via the A16 and, away from it, on roads checked in advance right up to your front door.

    6. 06

      Moving in and assembly

At the destination we distribute furniture and boxes to the rooms, reassemble everything and, where old houses have narrow staircases, use the furniture lift if needed.

    7. 07

      Handover and billing

On request we clean the old flat for handover, collect the empty boxes later and invoice according to the terms of the quote.

Canton of Jura: rural, spacious, easy to plan

The canton of Jura is largely rural; many places to live lie away from the main routes. During the survey, we clarify access, routes and the schedule so that loading, the journey and unloading can be completed in one day.

In Delémont, a statutory deadline of 14 days applies when moving in, and 30 days for a move within the municipality. Registration is also possible online via eDéménagement. You report your new address to the cantonal road traffic office within 14 working days.

    • No Saturday surcharge: Same price Monday to Saturday.

Removals to the canton of Jura: cost factors between Ajoie and Freiberge

The A16 crosses the canton from south-east to north-west; away from it, some roads are narrow and winding. Some passages carved into the rock are only 3.1 to 3.5 metres high, which affects the choice of route and vehicle. We bill the actual working time, including travel to and from Wallisellen. During the viewing we determine the route and vehicle size, and the quote follows within 24 hours.

Moving in the Canton of Jura: region, towns & tips

The Jura is the youngest canton in Switzerland (since 1979) and lies in the Jura Arc on the border with France. The official language is French and the capital is Delémont.

Regions and towns where we move

        • Ajoie with Porrentruy
        • Franches-Montagnes with Saignelégier

Moving tips for the Canton of Jura

        • In the old towns of Delémont and Porrentruy the lanes are narrow – we plan access in advance.
        • Many moves go to France – we discuss the documents when preparing the quote.
        • In the Franches-Montagnes, farms are widely scattered at around 1000 m; in winter we build in a buffer.

Getting to know the canton of Jura

Moving to the canton of Jura: removals to Switzerland's youngest canton

The canton of Jura is the 26th canton of Switzerland and has only existed since 1 January 1979; until then its territory belonged to the canton of Bern. Its official name is République et Canton du Jura, and French is both the official and everyday language. As of 30 September 2025, 75,016 people lived here; with 89 inhabitants per square kilometre, it is considerably less densely populated than the Swiss average.

Five landscapes in the Jura arc

The canton lies in the mountain range of the same name and comprises the Delsberger Becken (Delémont basin), the Ajoie, the Clos du Doubs, the Freiberge (Franches-Montagnes) and the Movelier uplands. In the west and north it forms part of the national border with France. To the south it borders the canton of Bern, to the east Solothurn and Basel-Landschaft, and in the far west near Les Bois Neuchâtel.

So if you move from Zurich to the Jura, you change not only canton but also language region. That is why we agree box labelling and arrangements at your new home with you in advance.

        Narrow roads and low passages

The most important road link is the A16, which crosses the canton from south-east to north-west. Away from it, some roads are narrow and winding because of the partly mountainous terrain. Some passages carved into the rock are only 3.1 to 3.5 metres high. Since 2000 there have been no traffic lights, except at roadworks and level crossings.

For your removal company, this is a concrete planning question. During the viewing we clarify:

        • which vehicle height and size the route to your address allows
        • where the removal van can stop in front of the building
        • how long the carrying distance to the flat is
        • whether a furniture lift makes sense for upper floors

Railways, the Doubs and the border

The Jurabahnen (Chemins de fer du Jura) operate several rail and bus lines. On the main SBB axis, express trains reverse direction in Delémont; another line runs from Delémont to Boncourt and on via Delle to Belfort, touching the Doubs valley with the Clos du Doubs. Since December 2025 the canton has had its own suburban rail network, the RER Jura.

Most places have French and German names, for example Delémont/Delsberg or Porrentruy/Pruntrut. The only German-speaking municipality is Ederswiler; in 2012, 91.8 per cent of the population used French as their main language.

        Moutier and the Jura question

In 1975 the districts of Porrentruy, Franches-Montagnes and Delémont opted for the new canton, while Moutier, Courtelary and La Neuveville remained with Bern. In 1996 the municipality of Vellerat moved to the Jura. On 28 March 2021 Moutier voted by almost 55 per cent to change canton, which took effect on 1 January 2026. Since then the canton has been divided into four districts.

Economically, the Jura is one of the weaker cantons; one focus is horse breeding, and the Freiberger breed used to be known as the "Jura horse". As a moving company based in Wallisellen, we handle your removal to any region of the canton, with furniture assembly, end-of-tenancy cleaning and disposal on request.

        Frequently asked questions

Who hands over my old flat if I already live in Delémont or Porrentruy?
Our team can take care of that: with the end-of-tenancy cleaning with handover guarantee, we attend the handover appointment and fix any complaints immediately and free of charge. Whether you attend yourself or authorise someone, you clarify with the property management. After moving to the Jura, this saves you a long trip back just for the inspection.

How do removals to Moutier work now that it belongs to the canton of Jura?
Logistically just like any other Jura address: the change of canton makes no difference to the street or the building. During the viewing we determine where the van may stop in Moutier, how far items need to be carried and which vehicle fits. We send the application for public land to the municipality of Moutier, which invoices the fee to you directly.

How does a removal van reach villages in the Movelier uplands?
Via a route checked in advance, because the Movelier uplands are a distinct, hilly landscape within the canton. Depending on road width, we use a smaller vehicle and plan an extra trip or more carrying staff for it. This trade-off is already in the quote, so nothing has to be improvised on moving day.

Where can my furniture be stored if the house in the Freiberge is not yet free?
With us, in our furniture warehouse, which is dry, climate-controlled and alarm-protected. We load everything on moving-out day and bring it to the Jura as soon as your new home is ready, including reassembly by our carpenters. We estimate the volume during the viewing so that storage and later delivery are quoted together.

When can a move from the Zurich area to the Ajoie be done in a single day?
When volume, vehicle and route are settled in advance: the Ajoie around Porrentruy lies in the far north-west on the border with France, the furthest point from Wallisellen. We therefore start loading early, pack boxes the day before on request and honestly factor the long drive into the schedule.

What should I watch out for when moving into an old Jura house that has stood empty for a long time?
Above all the condition of stairs, floors and doors: in the Jura, some historically valuable houses stand empty for longer periods. During the viewing we check the load capacity and width of the staircases, cover old wooden floors and dismantle large wardrobes. If a piece of furniture does not fit through the stairwell, we lift it through the window with the furniture lift if needed.

How much does it cost to move a piano to the canton of Jura?
We offer piano transport from CHF 250.–; floors, carrying distance and access at both addresses determine the exact amount. The instrument is padded, firmly secured in the vehicle and placed in its spot at the new address. If it is going into an old-town house in Delémont or Porrentruy, we measure stairs and doors beforehand.

What arrangements help when moving to Ederswiler or a French-speaking village?
Clear names and addresses in both languages: Ederswiler is the only German-speaking municipality in the canton, French is spoken all around it, and many places have two names. In the quote we note the official French place name so that navigation and the stopping place are correct, and we discuss everything else with you in German.

        Local moving logistics

Moving in the canton of Jura: Delémont basin, Ajoie and Freiberge

In the Jura, roads and terrain shape the planning more than elsewhere: narrow, winding stretches, low rock passages and rural municipalities. That is why every quote starts with the question of route and vehicle.

        Delémont in the Delémont basin

With 12,991 inhabitants, the capital is the largest settlement in the canton and has held town rights since 1289. In the historic town we plan the stopping place early and, in older buildings, check stairs and door widths for large furniture.

        Porrentruy in the Ajoie

Porrentruy has held town rights since 1283 and is regarded as a historic small town. In the town centre we fix the vehicle size and parking spot in advance so that the carrying distance from the van to the front door stays as short as possible.

        Freiberge and Clos du Doubs

The canton is considered extremely rural, and some roads are narrow and winding. For the drive up to the Freiberge or to the Clos du Doubs we choose a route that suits the vehicle height and realistically include the driving time in the schedule.

        Parking reservation

The canton has 51 political municipalities. If the removal van occupies public land, we apply for the reservation with the responsible office in your Jura municipality; the authority charges the fee.

        Disposal

We dispose of sorted-out furniture properly when you move out, for CHF 65.– per m³, so the removal van travels lighter to the Jura. Small quantities of batteries, glass or cardboard go to the collection point of your new municipality.

Districts in the Canton of Jura
