From Switzerland to Italy – returning home or a fresh start
Italian nationals returning to Italy can, under certain conditions, import their household goods (masserizie) duty-free. The Consulate General in Zurich sets out the main requirements.

Customs and formalities
Customs when moving to Italy: what the authorities require
For a permanent return to Italy, the Italian Consulate General in Zurich lists:
Export from Switzerland
- Inventory list: at the export customs office, an inventory list with your addresses in Switzerland and abroad is sufficient (BAZG).
- Vehicles: register separately for export, with a copy of the Swiss vehicle registration document.
- Municipality: Deregister with your previous municipality of residence.
Return to Italy (Consulate General Zurich)
- Residence: at least 12 consecutive months in a non-EU country.
- Import: household goods within 12 months of the last day of residence abroad.
- Vehicles: registered to the returning person for at least 6 months.
- Responsible office: Ufficio delle Dogane di Como.

I was very satisfied with the moving services and the cleaning work. The furniture was properly packed and handled with care. The subsequent cleaning was also carried out professionally, so the handover went through without any issues. What's more, all the staff were extremely friendly. I can only recommend the company.
