From Switzerland to Austria – relocation with a plan
Relocating to Austria counts as an import from a non-EU country. The Austrian Ministry of Finance sets out clear conditions under which relocation goods remain free of duties – we have summarised them below.

Customs and formalities
Customs when moving to Austria: what the authorities require
For relocation from a non-EU country, the Austrian Ministry of Finance lists these conditions:
Export from Switzerland
- Inventory list: at the export customs office, an inventory list with your addresses in Switzerland and abroad is sufficient (BAZG).
- Vehicles: register separately for export, with a copy of the Swiss vehicle registration document.
- Municipality: Deregister with your previous municipality of residence.
Import into Austria (bmf.gv.at)
- Use: relocation goods used for at least 6 months before giving up the previous residence.
- Residence: at least 12 consecutive months outside the EU.
- Registration: within 12 months of establishing residence in Austria.
- Restriction period: not to be passed on to anyone for 12 months after customs clearance.
- Form: ZBefr 2 or ZBefr 2a.

I was very satisfied with the moving services and the cleaning work. The furniture was properly packed and handled with care.
