From Switzerland to Germany – moving across the border
When you move to Germany, your household goods cross a customs border: Switzerland is not part of the EU. Household effects can be imported into Germany free of duties if certain conditions are met – you will find the most important ones below, with a link to German customs.

Customs and formalities
Customs when moving to Germany: what the authorities require
For import into Germany, German customs lists the following conditions for duty exemption:
Export from Switzerland
- Inventory list: at the export customs office, an inventory list with your addresses in Switzerland and abroad is sufficient (BAZG).
- Vehicles: register separately for export, with a copy of the Swiss vehicle registration document.
- Municipality: Deregister with your previous municipality of residence.
Import into Germany (zoll.de)
- Residence: at least 12 months outside the EU (Switzerland counts as a non-EU country).
- Use: household goods used for at least 6 months at the previous place of residence.
- Import: within 12 months of the transfer of residence.
- Restriction period: not to be sold, lent, rented out or pledged for 12 months.
- Registration: Form 0350 plus proof of change of residence and ownership.

I was very satisfied with the moving services and the cleaning work. The furniture was properly packed and handled with care.
