Moving in the town of Zug in 10 steps – lanes, lake and mountain

Narrow old-town lanes, large apartment blocks on the Lorze plain, houses on the lakeshore and farms on the Zugerberg: in Zug we plan your move in ten carefully coordinated steps.

    1. 01

Survey in town and on the mountain

Whether an old-town flat, an apartment block on the plain or a farm on the Zugerberg: we look at access and household contents, on site or by video, and send the quote within 24 hours.

    2. 02

      Application for the stopping place

For a space on public ground we submit the application to the town of Zug. The authority then invoices you for the permit fee itself.

    3. 03

      Boxes and packing material

You receive moving boxes, tape and padding material from us free of charge. On request our team packs the kitchen, books and display cabinets.

    4. 04Optional

Furniture lift in the old town

In the narrow lanes around Untergasse, the way to the entrance is often tight. We then lift heavy items via a window or balcony with the furniture lift.

    5. 05

Apartment blocks on the Lorze plain

Before loading, we pad the lift cars and corridors of the large developments. We clarify underground car park height and delivery in advance so that the right vehicle arrives.

    6. 06

      Steep access on the Zugerberg

For farm settlements on the Zugerberg we use a manoeuvrable vehicle and factor the gradient and longer carrying distances into the schedule from the outset.

    7. 07

      Lakeshore down to Oberwil

For houses in Oberwil and Räbmatt between the water and the mountain, we choose the approach and parking position so that the path to the front door stays as short as possible.

    8. 08

      Servers and laboratories

We relocate companies in the commercial districts outside business hours, with server rooms and laboratory equipment handled as part of our IT and laboratory relocation service.

    9. 09

      Assembly by carpenters

At the destination our own carpenters assemble beds, wardrobes and office furniture and place everything in the right rooms according to your plan.

    10. 10

      Handing over the old flat

We take items you no longer need for proper disposal. On request we clean your previous flat with a handover guarantee for a smooth handover.

In the narrow old-town lanes, a stopping place cannot be taken for granted. We handle the formalities with the responsible office in Zug free of charge, and the authority invoices you for the permit fee itself.

    Moving costs Zug

What a move in Zug costs: lake, old town or Zugerberg

In the lanes of the old town, the effort depends heavily on the stopping place; on the steep Zugerberg and its farm settlements, on vehicle size and carrying distance. On the Lorze plain with its residential and commercial districts, access is the main issue. From Wallisellen it is about 28 km as the crow flies, and the journey there and back counts as working time. The survey is free of charge, on site or by WhatsApp video, and a cost ceiling is available on request.

Zug in a few words: a lakeside town with eleven kilometres of shoreline

If you are moving in Zug, you benefit from a moving company that takes a close look at the location and its surroundings before moving day. Zug lies at 425 m above sea level between the north-eastern shore of Lake Zug and the foot and lower western slopes of the Zugerberg. Zug is connected to the Zurich S-Bahn network and to the motorway via the Zug and Baar junctions of the A14.

Our moving service covers all of Zug, including Oberwil, Lorzen, Kollermühle, Steinhuserbrugg, Ammannsmatt and Räbmatt. Zug borders Cham, Steinhausen, Baar, Unterägeri and Walchwil; we organise moves across municipal boundaries with one team and one quote.

        Getting to know Zug

Moving company Zug: old town, lakeshore and Zugerberg

Zug has around eleven kilometres of lakeshore, from the bay east of Cham to the Lotenbach stream near Walchwil. Behind it the Zugerberg rises steeply, reaching 1040 m above sea level at the Hünggigütsch. Even the name points to the lake: it goes back to the Old High German word zug, the hauling in of fishing nets. At the end of 2024, 32,122 people lived in the town. Whether by the water, on the plain or on the slope: every location raises its own questions for a move.

The old town and its lanes

In its first phase the town consisted of six rows of houses running roughly parallel to the south. In the old-town disaster of 1435, a third lane below today's Untergasse disappeared. To the north of it, the Vorstadt grew up on the lakeshore, a craftsmen's settlement with its own landing place for boats.

In historic lanes, space for a removal truck cannot be taken for granted. As a moving company in Zug, we therefore clarify during the free survey where the vehicle can stop, and arrange a parking reservation or a furniture lift if the stairwell is not wide enough for large furniture.

From the Lorze plain to the mountain

Along the northern shore runs a strip of the Lorze plain about one kilometre wide, at an average of 420 m above sea level. This is where extensive commercial, industrial and residential districts lie, and where Zug has grown closely together with Baar, Steinhausen and Cham. The Zugerberg is quite different: it drops steeply westwards to the lake, and only the foot of the slope within the town is more gently inclined.

Depending on the address, your removals company plans differently:

        • On the plain: stopping place and access in the residential and commercial districts, and for companies a move outside business hours
        • On the slope and at the farm settlements of the Zugerberg: carefully check vehicle size and carrying distance
        • In Oberwil and Räbmatt on the lakeshore south of the town: fix the stopping place in advance
        • In Lorzen, Chollermüli, Steinhauserbrugg and Ammannsmatt: clarify the approach to these somewhat separate settlements

        Moves across the town boundary

Between Zug and Baar the municipal boundaries are barely noticeable any more. So the distance is short for a move to Baar, for us as movers for Cham, in Steinhausen or southwards to Walchwil. Across the lake Zug also borders Risch and Meierskappel, and via the Alpli exclave on the Rossberg even the Schwyz municipalities of Arth and Steinerberg.

It is about 28 km as the crow flies to our base in Wallisellen. On request, your moving company in Zug takes care of furniture assembly, disposal, furniture storage and final cleaning, including on a Saturday with no Saturday surcharge.

        Questions about Zug

Do you also do removals in Zug's old town?
Yes. Zug's old town consists of parallel rows of houses and lanes such as Untergasse. During the survey we determine the stopping place and carrying distance and decide whether a furniture lift or a parking reservation is needed.

Do you handle moves to Oberwil and up the Zugerberg?
Yes. The village of Oberwil and the Räbmatt settlement on the lakeshore belong to the town of Zug, as do the farm settlements on the Zugerberg. On the mountain in particular, we clarify access and vehicle size in advance during the survey.

        Local moving logistics

Removal planning in Zug for the old town, Lorze plain and lakeshore

The town of Zug stretches from the flat Lorze plain via the old town on the lake to farm settlements on the Zugerberg. Between these locations, access, loading space and carrying distance change fundamentally.

Old town and Vorstadt on the lake

The rows of houses in the old town run parallel to the shore, and the lanes are narrow and partly traffic-calmed. We note how close the vehicle may get to the entrance and, for narrow stairs, plan a furniture lift via a window or balcony.

Lorze plain on the border with Baar

In the strip of the Lorze plain, about one kilometre wide, apartment blocks mix with commerce and industry. For large developments we clarify delivery, lift size and underground car park height before choosing the vehicle.

Oberwil and Räbmatt south of the town

The village of Oberwil and the Räbmatt settlement lie on the lakeshore towards Walchwil, squeezed between the water and the Zugerberg. For houses at the foot of the slope, we allow for gradients and sometimes longer paths from the vehicle to the front door.

        Parking reservation

For a stopping place on public ground, we submit the application to the responsible office in Zug. You do not need to deal with the formalities; the authority charges you the fee directly.

        Disposal

Normal household quantities of glass, paper or metal are accepted by your municipality's collection point. Bulky furniture, old carpets or the contents of a cellar compartment we dispose of properly on moving day at CHF 65.– per m³.

        B2B

Company, IT and laboratory relocations in Zug

The Lorze plain is home to extensive commercial and industrial districts that merge seamlessly into Baar. We relocate server rooms, laboratories and offices outside business hours, with files moved as an archive relocation on request.

        Frequently asked questions

Zug: answers to your moving questions

Who can pack up the entire household in Zug for international professionals?

Our team does this on request: we pack the kitchen, clothes, books and decorations professionally, label everything by destination room and unpack again at the new address. This suits anyone who is busy with work or newly arriving in the region. We show the cost of packing separately in the quote.

How does a move from Steinhauserbrugg or Chollermüli across to Steinhausen work?

As one job with one team, even though you are changing municipality. The drive over the Steinhauser Dorfbach stream is short, so the main effort lies in carrying and assembly. We look at both addresses and decide where the truck will stop at the destination so that it does not have to manoeuvre in a residential lane.

What should I check before buying new furniture for a flat in Zug's old town?

Measure the front door, the turns of the staircase and the room doors before ordering a large sofa or wardrobe in one piece. In houses on Untergasse or in the Vorstadt, such items do not always fit through the stairwell. We dismantle whatever can be dismantled and lift anything that cannot through the window with the furniture lift.

Where do I register if my new address is on the barely visible Zug–Baar boundary?

With the municipality on whose land the house actually stands, not the one that seems closer. On the Lorze plain, Zug and Baar have grown together so much that the boundary is hardly noticeable in the streetscape. Check the municipality in your tenancy agreement; this also determines which office we apply to for the stopping place.

What happens to tools and junk from the barn when I clear a farm on the Zugerberg?

Whatever is coming along we pack and load separately from the household contents so that tools and garden equipment do not damage any furniture. We take the rest away the same day for proper disposal. Roughly sort things into keep and discard beforehand, and we can then realistically estimate the volume and vehicle size for the farm access during the survey.

What applies to my car if I move from Zug to Arth in the canton of Schwyz?

With the move you change canton, so you re-register the vehicle with the Strassenverkehrsamt (road traffic office) of the new canton and receive new number plates. You report your departure and arrival to both municipalities. We move your household goods across the cantonal border with one quote, furniture assembly at the new address included.

Why do you pad art, glass and screens individually for a move in Zug?

Because these items are the most likely to be damaged during carrying and loading. Pictures and mirrors get edge protection, glass and porcelain paper and padded boxes, TVs and monitors blankets. In the vehicle every load is strapped down. Transport is insured, and we discuss particularly valuable items during the survey.

What support do you offer senior citizens moving within the town of Zug?

For a senior move we pack the whole household on request, dismantle furniture and reassemble it in the new flat, and take away whatever is no longer needed. We also take care of final cleaning with a handover guarantee. Relatives can join the survey and help decide what will fit into the smaller flat.
