Checklist
Your moving checklist in 6 phases
The following moving checklist arranges all tasks by timing. Deadlines come from the responsible authorities and are linked below. In the customer portal you receive the same list with your personal details.
2–3 months before the move
- Terminate your tenancy agreement: observe the notice period and termination date according to your tenancy agreement.
- Get quotes: Guide price in the moving cost calculator, then an on-site or video-call survey.
- Set the moving date: Monday to Saturday at the same price.
6–8 weeks before
- Temporary no-parking zone: Apply to the municipality for a parking space for the removal van – we can take care of this on request.
- School and daycare: register at your new place of residence.
- Declutter: dispose of or sell whatever is not coming along – disposal CHF 65.– per m³ plus labour.
4–5 weeks before
- Internet and phone: notify your provider of the move – Swisscom at least 10 days, Sunrise around 1 month, Salt Home around 5 weeks in advance.
- Moving boxes: rental boxes from us free of charge, estimate the quantity with the moving box calculator.
- Insurance: Inform your household contents insurance, liability insurance and health insurance of your new address.
1–2 weeks before
- Mail forwarding: submit at least 4 working days before the move; the change-of-address notification is free of charge.
- Deregister: with your current municipality, in participating municipalities online via eUmzugCH.
- Packing: room by room, label boxes by destination room.
On moving day
- Meter readings: read and note down electricity and water meters.
- Apartment handover: Complete the handover report for the old apartment and the move-in report for the new one.
- Keys: hand over in full and have receipt confirmed.
After the move
- Registration: with the new municipality, usually within 14 days.
- Vehicle: in the canton of Zurich, report your new address to the road traffic office within 14 days.
- Serafe: do nothing – the address is updated automatically via the residents' registration office.
- Dog: in the canton of Zurich, change of address via the municipality (AMICUS).

I was very satisfied with the moving services and the cleaning work. The furniture was properly packed and handled with care. The subsequent cleaning was also carried out professionally, so the handover went through without any issues. What's more, all the staff were extremely friendly. I can only recommend the company.

When do I have to register with the new municipality?
According to ch.ch, usually within 14 days of the move. In participating municipalities this can be done online via eUmzugCH.
When do I have to set up mail forwarding?
At least 4 working days before the move. The change-of-address notification itself is free of charge.
Do I need to inform Serafe about my move?
No. Serafe takes over the address data from the residents’ registration office.
By when do I have to report the new address for my car?
In the canton of Zurich, within 14 days of the move to the road traffic office.
How early should I book the moving company?
Ideally 6–8 weeks in advance, so that your preferred date and the temporary no-parking zone are secured.
