Strengelbach is an elongated village on the western edge of the Wigger plain. At its southern end lies the «Dörfli», the old village core, where the first farmsteads probably stood as early as the 8th or 9th century. The new centre further north grew out of a scattered settlement, the former «outer municipality». It was not until 1759 that the Bernese authorities obliged both parts to share a common administration. The old corporation rights of the Dörfli are still managed today by the Dorfgenossenschaft Strengelbach (village cooperative), with its own forest and its own water supply.
