Neuenhof is long and narrow. The village stretches across a plain between the left bank of the Limmat and the steep eastern slope of the Heitersberg. Down by the Limmat, the land lies at 360 m.

Railway from 1847, station only in 1990
On 9 August 1847, the Schweizerische Nordbahn opened Switzerland's first railway line, from Zurich to Baden, right through Neuenhof. Even so, the municipality only got its own station in May 1990. The A1 motorway, opened in 1971, brought good connections but cut the village in two; it has been covered over since May 2003. The busy Hauptstrasse 3 (main road 3) between Baden and Zurich also runs right through the village.

From monastery farm to suburban municipality
Neuenhof owes its name to the «neuer Hof» (new farm) that Wettingen Abbey established on the other side of the Limmat in the 13th century. Later, factories such as the Damsau weaving mill and the Webermühle used the river's water power. From 1950, the population almost quadrupled within twenty years, and at the end of 2025 there were 9,306 people living here. The municipality counted around 2450 jobs in 2015; we move businesses outside business hours and commuter households on Saturdays without a surcharge if they wish.
