Getting to know Obersiggenthal

Obersiggenthal is not a municipality with a single village centre. It consists of five villages at very different altitudes, from the Limmat at the Schiffmühle at 340 m above sea level to the Ebne area at 618 m. Anyone moving here should therefore place their address not just by street but also by location.
From Rieden to Tromsberg
- Rieden lies in the east, still within the Klus (narrow gorge) of Baden, close to the river.
- Hertenstein sits on the steep slope above it, at 482 m.
- Nussbaumen is the centre, where the valley begins to widen, and has grown together with Rieden.
- Kirchdorf lies furthest west, about a kilometre from the river, with an undeveloped gap separating it from Nussbaumen.
- Tromsberg sits on the slope above Kirchdorf, at 490 m.

In 1695, after long disputes, Kirchdorf and Nussbaumen separated from Untersiggenthal and formed a municipality of their own. For a long time it remained small. In 1854 the first factory in Rieden harnessed the water power of the Limmat, and after BBC was founded in Baden in 1892 the population shot up: in 1900 there were 1504 inhabitants, a hundred years later five times as many. At the end of 2025 Obersiggenthal had 9,020 inhabitants.
