From Wallisellen to Mellingen it is around 24 km as the crow flies; with us, travel there and back counts as actual working time. In the little Reuss town, location matters: in the protected old town, space in front of the house and stairwells are tight; on the plain by the Reuss, routes are usually simpler; on the hillside east of the river, access is what counts. Every move in Mellingen starts with a look at the local conditions: access, floors, parking and the route to the removal van. Mellingen lies on the Reuss, whose riverbank is one of the most beautiful and ecologically important landscapes in Switzerland. The centre is the medieval old town, which is listed among Switzerland's heritage townscapes thanks to its well-preserved historic architecture; Mellingen Heitersberg station with Zurich S-Bahn services.
Besides Mellingen itself, we also operate in the neighbouring municipalities of Birmenstorf, Fislisbach, Niederrohrdorf, Stetten and Tägerig. Mellingen belongs to the Baden district in the canton of Aargau.
Around 1230, the Kyburg counts founded a fortified market on the left bank of the Reuss and surrounded it with a ring wall. A bridge has crossed the river since the middle of the 13th century, and Mellingen received its town charter in 1296. Because the Catholic little town was the most important bridgehead between Bern and Zurich, it was occupied by troops no fewer than twelve times between 1528 and 1712. Today Mellingen has 6,319 inhabitants (as at the end of 2024).
The old town lies within the perimeter of the BLN area Reusslandschaft, a landscape of national importance, and because of its well-preserved architecture it is listed among the townscapes worthy of protection. It was rebuilt after the town fire of 1 September 1505, which destroyed around three quarters of the buildings. Anyone living in such a historic core knows the challenge: little space in front of the house and narrow stairwells. As your moving company in Mellingen, we therefore clarify early on:
Outside the old town, the buildings are spread over the plain by the river and the hillside east of the Reuss. To the north and east, a wooded terminal moraine of the Reuss glacier bounds the area; the 70-metre-high Gruemet is a remnant of it. In the north-west, the Reuss has cut a gorge about 40 metres deep through the moraine. The highest point, at 445 m above sea level, is in the Schneeschmelzi area, and the lowest, at 344 m, is on the Reuss. For addresses on the hillside, we check access and vehicle size during the free survey.
Mellingen placed great hopes in the Nationalbahn railway, which opened in 1877 with a Reuss bridge and station and went bankrupt just one year later. Since 1975, the Zurich S-Bahn has stopped at Mellingen Heitersberg station in the Mühlebach valley, on the line through the Heitersberg tunnel. Around 1970, the largest tank farm for petrol and oil in Switzerland was built next to the station. From the 1960s to the early 21st century, the population grew by more than two thirds.
For commuter households, we schedule moving day on a Saturday on request, and we relocate businesses outside their operating hours. Our base in Wallisellen is around 24 km away as the crow flies.
To the north, Mellingen borders Fislisbach and Rütihof, an exclave of Baden, and to the east Niederrohrdorf. For these routes we are the removals company for Fislisbach, help with your move to Niederrohrdorf and, as your moving company in Baden, also in Rütihof. You can reach your movers in Mellingen via the quote form.
How do you plan a move in Mellingen's old town?
The old town on the left bank of the Reuss is one of Switzerland's townscapes worthy of protection. During the survey we determine where the removal van can stop, organise the parking reservation and use a furniture lift if needed.
Do you also move households to the neighbourhoods east of the Reuss?
Yes. Mellingen's buildings extend over the plain by the river and the hillside east of the Reuss. For addresses on the hillside, we check access, carrying distance and the right vehicle size in advance.
The Reuss divides Mellingen into the historic little town on the left bank and the residential areas on the slope opposite. Access, parking spot and carrying distance look completely different depending on the bank, and we base our planning on that.
Within the former ring wall, the core lies in the protected perimeter of the Reusslandschaft and is listed among the townscapes worthy of protection. We check in advance how close the van can get to the entrance and whether a furniture lift is needed for upper floors.
On the right bank, where the Trostburger Twing once lay, the terrain rises to around 445 m above sea level. For houses on the slope, we clarify the gradient and driveway so that a suitable vehicle is planned and carrying distances are not unnecessarily long.
A large part of the built-up area was only added with the growth since the 1960s, on the plain by the river and in the Mühlebach valley near Mellingen Heitersberg station. For blocks of flats, lift size, stairwell and parking spot are the main considerations.
For parking on public ground, Mellingen has its own regulations on parking on public land. We apply for the stopping place for your move to the responsible office in Mellingen; its fee is charged to you.
For individual bulky items, the municipality of Mellingen sells fee stickers, and waste paper and green waste follow the waste calendar. If clearing out produces more, we take old furniture away and dispose of it properly for CHF 65.– per m³.
Industrial companies have settled in Mellingen since around 1900, and a large tank farm stands next to the station. For trade and offices, we plan the office relocation outside operating hours, with files moved as an archive move on request.
Mellingen borders Fislisbach, Niederrohrdorf, Birmenstorf, Stetten, Tägerig, Wohlenschwil and Rütihof, part of Baden. You'll find local pages for Baden, Wettingen and the Siggenthal municipalities below.
A total of 184 reviews on Google give us 4.8 out of 5 stars. Before you award the contract for your move in Mellingen, you can read there how others rate us.
The city of Baden, because Rütihof is an exclave of Baden and borders Mellingen to the north. We therefore apply for the stopping place at the destination to the responsible office in Baden, and for the one at the move-out address under the Mellingen regulations. You deregister in Mellingen and register in Baden, even though the drive only takes a few minutes.
We handle that as an office and IT move. Computers, monitors and network equipment are packed and labelled per workstation, and files move as an archive move. We set the schedule with you so that the business can carry on working the next morning.
In two stages with different techniques: in the little town we carry via the old stairwell or lift large items out with the furniture lift. In the newer block of flats in the Mühlebach valley, on the other hand, what counts is the lift dimensions and the route from the loading zone to the entrance. We record both during the survey so that team and vehicle suit both addresses.
With blankets, bubble wrap and sturdy boxes. We remove glass tops and transport them upright and secured, and pictures and mirrors individually wrapped. We also protect floors, lift and stairwell. Insurance is included in the price in case something happens despite all the care.
Ideally with the cellar, attic and wardrobes: sort out what is not coming along and pack rarely used things first. Label every box with the destination room. You don't need to dismantle furniture; our carpenters do that on moving day.
As soon as the rental agreement is signed. In the old town, the stopping place and possibly a furniture lift need some lead time, and you'll want the boxes in good time. Booking early also secures your preferred date, including Saturdays with no surcharge.
With a flat rate, the price is fixed in advance. With a cost ceiling, we charge actual working time in 15-minute increments, at least 3 hours, but never more than the agreed maximum amount. We agree either option on request after the free survey.
A piano needs enough carriers, straps and protective blankets. During the survey we check stairs, doors and access and plan a furniture lift if needed. Piano transport costs from CHF 250.– and can be combined with the rest of the move.
