Getting to know Windisch
Moving company Windisch: from the hill spur down to the Reuss
When you move in Windisch, you sometimes change not only your address but also your altitude. On a narrow hill spur above a bend in the Reuss stands the Kirchweiler hamlet with the old parish church. Around forty metres lower, on the peninsula to the east, lies Unterwindisch, the part of the village at the old ferry crossing over the river. Roman camp, monastery, university
On the plain west of the Kirchweiler, the legionary camp of Vindonissa was established from around 15 BC; its restored ruins can be visited today. Later, the widowed Queen Elisabeth founded Königsfelden monastery on this site in memory of King Albert I, who had been murdered in 1308 not far from the Reuss crossing. Today Windisch is also home to the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland).
