Moving in Zollikon: what we pay attention to
Zollikon stretches up a hillside for around five kilometres, from Lake Zurich at 408 metres up to Zollikerberg at 662 metres – two localities separated by a belt of forest and very different in character. In the historic village centre around Chleidorf, Oberdorf and Hinterdorf, the lanes are narrow, so access for large removal vans often requires careful advance planning. The Zollikon police are responsible for no-parking zones on public land, and we take care of the application for you.
With only 1.5 kilometres of lakeshore, access by the water is limited, while the network of Seestrasse and Forchstrasse, built from 1843 onwards, still forms the main access route today. In Zollikerberg, which only formally became part of Zollikon in 1804, and in newer neighbourhoods such as Buchholzhügel or Rietholz, the buildings are much more spread out than in the old village centre. With tram 11, the S-Bahn and several bus lines, the municipality is well connected, but this also means more traffic around the stations at rush hour.

Getting to know Zollikon
Moving company Zollikon: a narrow strip from the lake to the Breitmoos
Zollikon is around two kilometres wide and five kilometres long. The strip runs from west to east from Lake Zurich up the flank of the Pfannenstiel to the Breitmoos on the border with Maur, where the highest point lies at 662 m above sea level. At around 8 km as the crow flies, Zollikon is quickly reached from our base in Wallisellen.
A forest divides the municipality
More than a third of its 785 hectares is forest. The broad forest belt stretches from Zurich to Küsnacht and separates Zollikon-Dorf (the village) from the Zollikerberg. The largest owner is the Holzkorporation (timber corporation), founded on 30 April 1330 by the roughly 250 inhabitants of the time. Below the forest, on a terrace, lies the Allmend.

Streams as boundaries
Where the municipality ends, there is usually a stream. Documented since 946
On 28 April 946 a charter mentions "the two Zollikons", probably meaning the first Wachten (old village quarters) Chleidorf and Hinterdorf/Oberdorf; the same charter also mentions Trichtenhausen and Witellikon. The name means "at the farmsteads of Zollo's people". On the Feufbüel five burial mounds from the Hallstatt period can still be made out, and on the Zollikerberg the field names Deisten and Galgenbühl point to a former place of judgement. The Goldene Halde was the most important vineyard until the early 20th century. Incidentally, until 1986 Zollikon belonged to the Zurich district; today it belongs to the Meilen district.

Polizei ZollikonThe Polizei Zollikon sells parking cards and is also responsible for building sites and signage. On white parking bays you may park free of charge for a maximum of three hours during the day on working days; for a whole moving day we therefore apply for a permit, and the municipality charges the fee.

When is the best time to load in Zollikon if the flat is near tram 11 or the station?
Outside rush hours, because there is particularly heavy traffic around the stations then. We therefore start early in the morning or schedule the move on a Saturday, when there is no surcharge.
