Without its own rail connection, Gossau relies on bus routes and the road – via the Forch motorway A52 and the Oberland motorway A15, Zurich, Winterthur and Zurich Airport in Kloten can be reached in 20 to 30 minutes. Around the widely visible Reformed church, with roots dating back to the 8th century, and near the former silk-spinning mill site in Ottikon, the buildings have grown historically. The Catholic parish church Maria Krönung on Chapfstrasse was designed by the architect Fritz Metzger, and there is also the Reformed church of Gossau. The landmark, however, is the Reformed church that sits enthroned on the drumlin «Berg» high above the municipality and replaced an older building from 1440 in 1820. Since 1831 the municipality has belonged to the Hinwil district.
