Dürnten is a residential municipality with four separate districts. Five clear steps, tailored to your district, are therefore enough for moving day.
Whether a flat near Tann station or a house on the Bachtel slopes: we check access, floors and stopping point on site or by video and then send the quote.
If the truck stands on public land, we apply for the reservation with the relevant municipal office. The authority bills you the fee separately.
For Oberdürnten and Breitenmatt with their narrow farm roads, we choose a manoeuvrable vehicle; in Tann and the village, usually the large removal truck.
Our team covers floors, stairs and lift car, carries furniture and boxes to the truck and loads everything securely before heading on to Rüti, Hinwil or elsewhere in Dürnten.
At the destination, we position and assemble the furniture. You can drop off small quantities of separated waste at the mobile collection point; on request we clean the old flat.
Your new Gemeinde (municipality) expects you to register within 14 days, as the canton of Zurich stipulates; in many municipalities this works online via eUmzug (online change of address).
Letters arrive at your new address if you request forwarding from Swiss Post at least 4 working days before the move. The Einwohnerkontrolle (residents' registration office) takes care of Serafe (radio/TV licence fee) and transfers the address automatically.
Anyone moving to Dürnten pays an overall tax rate excluding church tax of 113 % in 2026. For comparison in 2026: Rüti 119 %, Bubikon 118 %, Hinwil 116 %, Wald 122 % and Zurich 119 %. Dürnten is therefore lower than Zurich.
For the removal truck on public land, whether in Oberdürnten, Tann or the village, we obtain the permit free of charge from the relevant office in Dürnten. The authority invoices you for the fee.
We load bulky furniture during the move and dispose of it for CHF 65.– per m³ plus labour. Small quantities of separately collected waste are accepted by the mobile collection point, which stops in Dürnten and Tann.
We travel around 24 km as the crow flies from Wallisellen to Dürnten, and this journey there and back is part of the working time we charge. Within the municipality, the effort varies widely, as the terrain ranges from 461 m at the Jona bridge to 808 m above sea level above Ornberg. In Tann, the stopping point usually matters most; in Oberdürnten on the Bachtel slopes, gradient and carrying route are added. On request, we agree a cost ceiling.

For us, Dürnten is not just a dot on the map but a real place of work with its own routes, access roads and neighbourhoods. Dürnten lies in the Zürcher Oberland between the gorge-like Jona valley and the slopes of the Bachtel. Tann station is served every half hour by the S26 (Winterthur – Bauma – Rüti ZH) of the Zurich S-Bahn.
As a moving company for Dürnten, we also handle moves in the districts of Tann, Oberdürnten and Breitenmatt – with the same planning and the same guide prices. We also plan moves from Dürnten to a neighbouring municipality such as Rüti (ZH), Bubikon, Hinwil and Wald (ZH) as a one-stop moving company. Dürnten belongs to the Hinwil district in the canton of Zurich.
Dürnten in the Hinwil district is divided into four geographically separate localities: Tann, Dürnten proper, Oberdürnten and Breitenmatt, which lies around 50 metres higher and can only be reached via narrow farm roads and the Höhenstrasse towards the Allmen range. Dürnten has no municipal police force of its own: the Zurich cantonal police is responsible, with the nearest station in Hinwil. In practice, temporary no-parking zones for moving day are arranged with the Dürnten municipal administration via its civil engineering department – we handle the application for you.
The Reformed church stands in Dürnten's village centre; the present late-Gothic building was erected between 1517 and 1521, and an earlier church on the same site is documented as early as around 700. Tann-Dürnten station is on the Tösstal line and is served every half hour by the S26; the A15 motorway can be reached via the Grossriet junction. Dürnten is primarily a residential municipality without major industry, so most moves are private apartment moves between the four localities.
For the Private Move we clarify access and the no-parking zone with you in advance; for the Corporate relocation we coordinate the schedule with your business hours. Both with a cost ceiling, with no surprises on moving day.
A good half of Dürnten's residents do not live in the village of Dürnten but in Tann: in 2024, 52% of the population lived there, 28% in the Dürnten district and 20% in Oberdürnten including Breitenmatt. In total, the municipality had 7,636 inhabitants (as of 2018). As your moving company in Dürnten, we travel around 24 km as the crow flies from Wallisellen.
The landscape is typical of the Töss hills: deeply cut gorges, wooded hilltops and, near Hinwil, the glacially formed drumlin hills. The municipality's lowest point is 461 m below the Jona bridge by the Rüti roundabout, its highest 808 m above sea level above Ornberg. Oberdürnten lies on the slopes of the Bachtel, east of and above the village; the counterpart is the gorge-like Jona valley with the Pilgersteg footbridge and the Tannertobel. Above Breitenmatt there was once even a small airfield with a grass runway.
What this means for a move depends heavily on the district:
Tann has been connected to the rail network since 1876, first by the Wald-Rüti railway and shortly afterwards by the Tösstal railway to Winterthur. The Dürnten district got its own station in 1901 with the Uerikon-Bauma railway, but the line was not profitable and was abandoned in 1948. The station building and railway embankment survive to this day. Since then, buses have run: route 870 from Rüti via Tann and Oberdürnten to Hinwil, and route 882 from Bubikon to Breitenmatt; late in the evening, the Buxi (on-demand bus) takes over.
For commuters, we also move on Saturdays, with no Saturday surcharge. A free site visit, on site or via WhatsApp video, is always included with us.
Dürnten borders Rüti, Bubikon, Hinwil and Wald. With a Steuerfuss (municipal tax rate) of 113% excluding church tax in 2026, the municipality is below all these neighbours: Hinwil is at 116%, Bubikon at 118%, Rüti at 119% and Wald at 122%. If you are moving within the region, you will find the right removal company with us: for a move to Rüti, as your removal firm in Hinwil, for furniture transport to Bubikon or as your movers for Wald.
Incidentally, lignite (Schieferkohle) was mined in Dürnten between 1825 and 1881, around 85,000 tonnes in total. On request, your movers in Dürnten also take care of furniture assembly, end-of-tenancy cleaning and disposal.
Do you also move to Breitenmatt above Oberdürnten?
Yes. Breitenmatt lies at the start of the Höhenstrasse (ridge road) towards the Allmen chain and around 50 metres above Oberdürnten. For addresses there, we clarify access, gradient and vehicle size during the free site visit.
Is a move from Tann to Rüti a local move for you?
Yes. Tann is close to Rüti, and bus route 870 connects the two directly. For short moves like these across the municipal border, we plan the stopping point and carrying route at both addresses and send you the quote within 24 hours.
Dürnten's four districts are geographically separate, with fields, gorges and marked differences in altitude between them. We therefore plan vehicle and stopping point not for Dürnten as a whole, but for your district.
A good half of the population lives in Tann; the district has an S26 station and is close to Rüti. If you move within Tann or across to Rüti, driving distances are short; planning focuses mainly on the stopping point and carrying route.
Between Oberdürnten and Breitenmatt lie fields and around 50 metres of altitude, both at the start of the ridge road from Hasenstrick. For addresses here, we check whether the large removal truck fits or a smaller vehicle makes two trips.
The Rüti–Dürnten–Hinwil road runs through the village. If your flat is on this through road, the removal truck must stand so that traffic can pass, which is why we reserve the stopping point early.
For the removal truck's stopping point on public land, we organise the parking space reservation with the relevant office in Dürnten, whether in Tann, the village or Oberdürnten. The authority invoices you for the fee.
You can drop off separately collected waste yourself at the mobile Sammelstelle (mobile collection point), which stops in Dürnten and Tann; it does not accept household rubbish or hazardous waste. We dispose of bulky furniture properly during the move for CHF 65.– per m³.
Rüti, Bubikon, Hinwil and Wald border Dürnten directly. Other places we serve in the Hinwil district are Bäretswil, Gossau and Wetzikon.
With 4.8 out of 5 stars from 184 Google reviews, there is a broad basis to go on. A look at the profile shows how other families experienced their move with us.
Our own carpenters handle the dismantling in the old flat and the assembly at the new place. Screws and small parts go into labelled bags so nothing gets lost. That way the bedroom is usable again by the evening of moving day.
A few days before the date, we check with you whether the access road has been cleared, and if necessary use the smaller vehicle, which stands more securely on the slope. We lay floor protection along the route from the truck to the front door so snow and moisture are not carried into the stairwell.
The situation is different at each end: up on the Bachtel slopes, gradient and turning space matter; down in Tann, it is the parking space among the denser buildings. If the large truck does not fit at the top, we drive the short distance twice with the smaller vehicle. This keeps the carrying route short at both addresses, and the furniture is not reloaded.
If possible in a driveway or on a forecourt, so traffic between Rüti and Wald can pass unhindered. If only the roadside remains, we apply for the space with the relevant office in Dürnten and deploy enough people for the truck to be loaded quickly. We fix the location of the parking space with you during the site visit.
Take small quantities of sorted waste to the mobile collection point when it stops in the village or in Tann; rubbish bags and hazardous waste do not belong there. You do not have to drive old furniture, mattresses and bulky items down yourself; we load them additionally on moving day and dispose of them properly.
Whenever you do not want to deal with cleaning and the handover appointment after the move. We clean the old flat, attend the handover and fix any complaints from the property management immediately and free of charge until the inspection is complete.
We charge for actual working time in 15-minute increments, with a minimum of 3 hours. With short distances within the municipality, the effort stays manageable. After the site visit, you receive the quote within 24 hours, on request with a cost ceiling or as a fixed price.
On request, we take care of everything from packing and dismantling and reassembling furniture to setting up the new, perhaps smaller flat. Whatever no longer fits, we take away for disposal or put into storage. Relatives can join the video site visit from elsewhere.
