Eglisau has only a little over 5000 inhabitants – 5528 in 2022 – and yet has kept the town rights it acquired in the Middle Ages. The little town lies on the north bank of the Rhine, at Rhine kilometre 74.4, and is listed in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites (ISOS). Vineyards still shape the townscape today.
