Moving to Winkel does not necessarily mean ending up in the village of Winkel. The municipality consists of the three villages of Winkel, Rüti and Seeb, and slightly less than half of its nearly 5000 inhabitants (as of 2022) live in Rüti. A hilltop between Winkel and Rüti
The municipality lies on the western slope of the Dättenberg. Winkel and Seeb have since grown together, while a hilltop on the Dättenberg separates Winkel from Rüti. Rüti itself consists of Ober- and Niederrüti, which today also merge into one another. Incidentally, the name Winkel (corner) refers to the notch in the hills in which the village centre lies.
For moving day, the hillside location means: during the viewing we look at access, gradient and carrying route and choose the right vehicle size accordingly. In the old village cores, where space is sometimes tighter, we fix the parking space early.
Grown with the airport
Before Zurich Airport opened in 1948, Winkel had only a few hundred inhabitants; today part of a runway even lies within the municipality. Around 1970 Swissair built a terraced housing estate in Rüti for its staff, and at the end of the 1990s nearly 500 flats were added within a single year.
