Getting to know Bubikon
Moving company Bubikon: two villages, six hamlets, one Ritterhaus
The villages of Bubikon and Wolfhausen have formed one municipality since 1884. Added to them are the hamlets of Barenberg, Berlikon, Bürg, Lanzacher, Wändhüslen and Widenswil. In total, Bubikon had 7,334 inhabitants (as of 2018). As your moving company in Bubikon, we reach the municipality from our base in Wallisellen, around 23 km away as the crow flies.
Where the hamlets lie
Barenberg lies east of Wolfhausen, Berlikon to the south and Bürg to the north of it. Lanzacher and Wändhüslen are north-west and north of Bubikon respectively, and Widenswil sits between the two villages. Between Bubikon and Bürg rises the Hombergchropf at 568 m, the highest point in the municipality; the lowest, at 480 m, is where the Schwarz stream drains towards Rüti.
Located between the catchment areas of the Glatt and Lake Zurich, Bubikon stays fairly gentle, with a height difference of just under 90 metres. Even so, the access to a house in a hamlet looks different from that to a flat in the village. Once a railway junction, still well connected
Bubikon was once a railway junction: the Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen and the Uerikon-Bauma line crossed here, with connections in all four directions. Today VZO bus routes link the station with the surrounding area, such as the 880 via Wolfhausen to Hombrechtikon and Stäfa, the 882 to Dürnten and Oberdürnten, and the 883 to Wetzikon on weekdays.
The village is also well connected by road. What this means for moving day:
- The A53 Oberland motorway can be reached via the Dürnten junction near the station and the Rüti junction in Kämmoos, which makes the approach with the removal van easier.
- On main road 336 from the Kämmoos roundabout to Hombrechtikon, the municipality's main artery, we choose the parking spot with particular care.

Around the Ritterhaus
The Ritterhaus Bubikon stands on a conglomerate spur in the south-east of the municipality. It was given to the Order of St John in 1192 and last extended in 1570, and today it is considered the best-preserved commandery of the Knights Hospitaller in Europe, with a museum on the Crusades and orders of knighthood run by the Ritterhausgesellschaft, founded in 1936. In 2018 Bubikon also served as a filming location for the feature film about Zwingli.
