Getting to know Oftringen
Moving company Oftringen: a municipality without a centre, but with many districts
Oftringen has no real village centre. The municipality is a scattered settlement dating back to an Alemannic foundation in the 7th century, and it grew very strongly above all between 1950 and 1970. In December 1995 it passed the 10,000 mark, and on 31 December 2025 15,198 people lived here. This makes Oftringen the fifth most populous municipality in Aargau, around 52 km as the crow flies from our base in Wallisellen.
North of the motorway: Kreuzstrasse and Schwarzhoor
The districts north of the motorway have grown together with Aarburg. Kreuzstrasse developed at the intersection of the Zurich–Bern and Basel–Lucerne main roads and is characterised by neoclassical town houses from the late 18th century; the Aarburger Mühletych mill stream flows right through it. To the north lies Schwarzhoor at the foot of the steeply rising Engelberg (691 m above sea level).
For older houses in Kreuzstrasse we check stairwell and parking spot; at the foot of the slope in Schwarzhoor it is more about access and vehicle size. Both happen during the free viewing, on site or via WhatsApp video.
South of the motorway: Küngoldingen and Wirtshüsli
The second centre of settlement lies south of the motorway, with Küngoldingen, which includes Bühnenberg and Ruhbank, and the district of Wirtshüsli; these built-up areas merge seamlessly into those of Zofingen. To the south-east lies a raised plain, surrounded in a semicircle by gently to moderately steep hills, the highest point of which is the Hochwacht (654 m above sea level). On the Säli, a secondary summit of the Engelberg, stand the ruins of Alt-Wartburg castle, which was destroyed in 1415.
