Getting to know Eschenbach

Eschenbach has been considerably larger since 2013, when the municipality merged with Goldingen and St. Gallenkappel. Today, besides the village of Eschenbach, it also includes Bürg, Diemberg, Ermenswil, Länziken, Lütschbach and Neuhaus. The political municipality has 9,602 inhabitants (as of 2018), and around 5,576 people lived in the village of Eschenbach itself in 2022. No rail line, but buses and a pass road
None of the villages has a railway station; Eschenbach was never connected to the rail network. Bus lines run to the stations of Schmerikon, Uznach, Rüti ZH, Wattwil and Rapperswil-Jona. In Neuhaus and St. Gallenkappel, main road 8 leads up to the Ricken Pass, Goldingen is reached via a minor road, and the A15 bypass relieves the village centre. For us as movers, this means:

Traces from many centuries
On the Balmenrain between Eschenbach and Schmerikon, burial mounds from the Hallstatt period were found, and a St. Michael's church is mentioned in 885. In Neuhaus, the chapel of St. Jakob stands on the pilgrims' way to Einsiedeln; it was rebuilt from 1695 to 1697. Industrialisation came late: the Aatal-Neuhaus weaving mill was founded in 1857, and the spring factory in Ermenswil in 1888.
The municipality has just under 4,000 jobs in around 300 businesses. Among the largest are the household appliance manufacturer Eugster/Frismag in Neuhaus with over 500 jobs and Baumann Springs in Ermenswil with around 400.
