On 1 January 2013, Gommiswald, Ernetschwil and Rieden merged. Since then, the political municipality in the See-Gaster constituency, covering 33.59 km², has consisted of the villages of Ernetschwil, Gebertingen, Gommiswald, Ricken, Rieden and Uetliburg. Gommiswald-Dorf and Rieden have their own Ortsgemeinden (local citizens' corporations); Ernetschwil, which was an independent municipality from 1807 to 2012, does not. 2,241 people live in the village of Gommiswald (as of July 2022), and 5,164 in the whole municipality (as of 2018).
