Getting to know Uznach

A small town with a history of fire
The settlement of the Alemannic Uzzo was first mentioned in records in 741, and until 2003 Uznach was the capital of the See district. Around 1200, the Counts of Toggenburg founded the town of Uznach and built a small castle at the northern end of today's Städtchen (old town). The old village lay between the Aabach and the Kreuzkirche. On the night of 18 to 19 August 1762, the town burnt down completely, including the church, hospital and 82 houses.
