Getting to know Uzwil
Moving company Uzwil: seven villages, one industrial hub
Until 1964 the municipality was officially called Henau. Today, with 14,676 inhabitants (as of the end of 2025), Uzwil is the fifth-largest municipality in the canton of St. Gallen. It consists of seven villages and hamlets that differ markedly in character, and that is exactly what matters when you move.
Residential villages and a place of work
- Niederuzwil: the largest village, mainly residential, with the 17th-century granary
- Uzwil: a working and business centre shaped by industry, with the Villa Waldbühl
- Henau: the oldest village, on the Thur plain, with a church tower dating from before 1463
- Algetshausen: a residential village above Henau
- Niederstetten, Oberstetten and Stolzenberg: rural in character
In an apartment building in Niederuzwil it is mainly about the parking space and lift, while in Oberstetten or Stolzenberg it is more about access. We clarify both during the free survey. Incidentally, the road through Oberstetten has officially been called Oklahomastrasse since 2001, because the residents colloquially call their village «Oklahoma».
Bühler and many other employers
The largest employer is Bühler AG, with around 2,500 employees at its headquarters in Uzwil. There are also companies such as Benninger AG, Cleanfix Reinigungssysteme and SwissPrimePack, and Aldi Suisse has its headquarters and regional distribution centre in Niederstetten.
