The municipality in the Fürstenland comprises the villages of Oberbüren, Niederwil and Sonnental as well as the hamlet of Staubhusen, and had 4,447 residents (as of 2018). Incidentally, the village of Sonnental was called Durstudlen until 1880 and used to belong to the parish of Henau.

The lowest point of the municipality is 484 m above sea level on the Thur at the boundary with Niederbüren, the highest is 660 m on the Schentis near Sidenberg in the Niederwil part of the municipality.
