Where fabrics were once dyed, there are now flats. The HC Färberei dye works, which grew out of the company Heer & Co. that moved here from Thal in 1838, closed in 2002; in 2011 the last factory building came down along with its 47-metre chimney, and apartment buildings went up on the site. Something similar happened to the site of the former Benninger assembly hall and the Hefti tannery, which was redeveloped in 2010 and 2011. Cantonal road no. 8 runs from Gossau past Riggenschwil through the village and along the Bettenauer Weiher pond towards Wil. Rail travellers use Uzwil station, which Oberuzwil and Uzwil run jointly; the InterCity 1, the InterRegio 13 and the St. Gallen S-Bahn stop there. If you commute to work, you will not want to lose a working day: on request we therefore move on a Saturday, with no Saturday surcharge.
