Bauma in 7 steps – from the valley floor to the upland hamlets

Whether it is a flat in the village on the Töss or a farmhouse on a terrace above the valley: every step is tailored to the access and altitude of your address.

    1. 01

      First contact and viewing

You tell us the district or hamlet, we look at the gradient, turning space and access to the house, and then send you the quote within 24 hours.

    2. 02

      Choosing the right vehicle

For narrow access roads towards Sternenberg or Lipperschwendi, we plan a smaller vehicle; on the valley floor around the station, the large removal van is used.

    3. 03

      Boxes to the Töss valley

We deliver free packing materials and moving boxes two to three weeks in advance, so you can pack room by room without any rush.

    4. 04

Parking space in the village centre

If you live near the railway station, we reserve the space for the van through the responsible office; any fee for this is charged to you directly by the authority.

    5. 05

      Protect, carry, load

Blankets, floor protection and lift and stairwell protection go in before the first piece of furniture; if the path to the house is longer, we carry along the route agreed in advance.

    6. 06

      Transport and assembly

Whether up the valley to Fischenthal or out to Wila: at the destination, our own carpenters reassemble wardrobes and beds, and a furniture lift helps where needed.

    7. 07

      Handing over the old flat

On request, we clean your previous home in Bauma and attend the handover inspection; we fix any complaints immediately and free of charge.

        Bauma at a glance

Bauma at a glance: Tössbergland, S26 and plenty of forest

For us, Bauma is not just a dot on the map but a real place of work with its own routes, access roads and neighbourhoods. Bauma lies in the Tössbergland, in the pre-Alpine part of the Töss Valley in the Zurich Oberland, at 639 m above sea level on the Winterthur–Rüti ZH railway line. Bauma station is served every half hour by the S26 (Winterthur–Bauma–Rüti ZH) of the Zurich S-Bahn.

As a moving company for Bauma, we also handle moves in the districts of Sternenberg, Saland, Laubberg, Blitterswil, Juckern and Dillhaus – with the same planning and the same guide prices. As a moving company, we also plan moves from Bauma to a neighbouring municipality such as Fischingen, Fischenthal, Bäretswil and Hittnau from a single source. Bauma belongs to the district of Pfäffikon in the canton of Zurich.

        Getting to know Bauma

Moving company Bauma – between the Töss and the Hörnli

Bauma is a forest municipality: 54.1% of its 2,951 hectares are woodland and only 5.6% is built-up area (as of 2018). The village sits at 639 m above sea level in the Tössbergland, the pre-Alpine part of the Töss valley. The lowest point of the municipality is on the Töss near Saland at 595 m, the highest at the Chlihörnli at 1,073 m. Our base in Wallisellen is around 22 km away as the crow flies.

Many hamlets spread over a wide area

Since 1 January 2015, the former municipality of Sternenberg has also been part of Bauma. Then there are villages and hamlets such as Saland, Laubberg, Blitterswil, Juckeren, Dillhaus, Undalen, Altlandenberg, Bliggenswil, Wolfensberg, Hörnen, Schindlet, Wellenau and Lipperschwendi. Bliggenswil, Blitterswil, Hörnen, Lipperschwendi, Undalen and Wellenau lie on the higher terraces that the Alemanni were the first to settle between the 7th and 10th centuries. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the lords of Alt-Landenberg castle drove the expansion of farmland.

For a move in these locations, the access road matters more than the parking spot. As your movers in Bauma, this is how we proceed:

        • At the free viewing, on site or by WhatsApp video, we check the route and gradient up to the house.
        • We then choose the vehicle size that can safely handle the access road.
        • Where the removal van cannot get right up to the house, we agree the carrying route in advance.
        • Furniture that has no space for the time being can be put into storage on request.

From market town to residential community

The name means "by the trees" and is first recorded in 1468 as "Müli zu den Boumen". When the Reformed church was built in 1651, the village consisted of just four houses. With the market and toll rights granted in 1661, Bauma became the centre of the upper Töss valley. A major fire in 1786 and the flood of 1876, when the entire village was under water, set the place back. Around 1900, some 600 people worked in the spinning and weaving mills along the Töss; since 1989, all textile businesses have closed.

        Connected by the Tösstalbahn

The Tösstalbahn railway has run from Winterthur to Bauma since 1875, and a year later it was extended to Wald. The line is still used by the S-Bahn today. If you commute to Winterthur or Zurich, you can schedule your moving day on a Saturday, with no Saturday surcharge from us.

Neighbouring municipalities include Fischenthal, Bäretswil, Hittnau, Pfäffikon, Wildberg, Wila and Fischingen in Thurgau. We handle your move to Bäretswil just as we act as removal company for Pfäffikon in the same district. Village or hamlet: your removals team in Bauma puts together your quote within 24 hours.

        Questions about Bauma

Is the former municipality of Sternenberg also part of your area?
Yes. Sternenberg has belonged to the municipality of Bauma since 1 January 2015. Because the municipality reaches up to 1,073 m above sea level, we take particular care to clarify access and vehicle size for addresses at higher altitude.

Do you handle moves to remote hamlets such as Lipperschwendi or Wellenau?
Yes. Hamlets such as Lipperschwendi, Wellenau, Hörnen and Bliggenswil are part of Bauma. At the viewing, we check the route to the house and plan the vehicle and carrying route accordingly.

        Local moving logistics

Moving house in Bauma: Töss valley, Sternenberg and scattered hamlets

The municipal area of Bauma stretches from 595 m on the Töss to 1,073 m at the Chlihörnli. More than half of it is forest, and the houses are spread across the village, smaller settlements and many hamlets.

        Bauma village on the Töss

The centre of the municipality lies on the valley floor by the Winterthur–Rüti railway line. Here the houses stand closer together, so the main concern is a free parking space right outside the entrance.

        Sternenberg

The former municipality has been part of Bauma since 1 January 2015. For addresses in Sternenberg, we ask about access and gradient at the viewing and plan a removal van of the right size.

Saland in the lower Töss valley

At 595 m, Saland is the lowest point of the municipality. For a move up the valley to the village or a hamlet, we combine both addresses in one trip, with no interim storage.

Hamlets such as Hörnen, Wellenau and Lipperschwendi

These settlements lie on higher terraces. Where the van cannot reach the door, we include the longer carrying distance in the quote, so there are no surprises on moving day.

        Parking reservation

If a reserved space for the removal van is needed in the village, we take care of it with the responsible office in Bauma. Any fee is charged directly by the authority and does not appear on our invoice.

        Disposal

Furniture that has no place in your new home we take away and dispose of properly at CHF 65.– per m³. The municipality of Bauma can tell you where to drop off small quantities yourself.

        Region and services

Removals in the Pfäffikon district and the upper Töss valley

From Bauma, we move households throughout the Pfäffikon district, for example to Fehraltorf, Illnau-Effretikon or Lindau, and just as much within the municipality between Saland, Sternenberg, Hörnen and Lipperschwendi.

        Frequently asked questions

Common questions about moving in Bauma

Who helps seniors move from a hamlet to a flat near Bauma station?

Our team supports such senior moves from the very start: we discuss which furniture will fit into the smaller flat, pack everything on request and set up the rooms in the village so they feel like home again. Anything that no longer fits we take away or put into storage. Relatives do not need to travel to the Töss valley specially.

How do you move to a farm near Altlandenberg, Schindlet or Wolfensberg?

First, you show us the last stretch to the farm by video or at an on-site appointment. We then decide whether a smaller vehicle can reach the house or whether we carry part of the way with more people. Our carpenters dismantle large wardrobes in the old home so they stay manageable.

Where does Bauma border Thurgau, and what does that mean for a move to Fischingen?

In the north-east, Bauma borders Fischingen TG, and north of the Hörnli there is even a point where three cantons meet, including St. Gallen. For us, a move across this border remains a single trip with the same team. What is new for you is mainly registering with a Thurgau municipality; we apply for the parking space at the destination with the local office.

When should a winter move to Sternenberg or towards the Chlihörnli be planned?

As early as possible, so there is room for an alternative date. These addresses lie much higher than the village, and in snow or ice the access can look different from the day of the viewing. We agree a fallback date with you in advance, and because Saturdays cost the same with us, the date can be moved flexibly.

What do you look out for in old Tössbergland farmhouses with wooden stairs?

We fully cover wooden steps and floorboards before the first trip, and pad banisters and door frames. Where passages are low, we prefer to dismantle large furniture rather than tilt it. If a piece will not fit through the stairwell at all, we check the route through a window with the furniture lift at the viewing.

Why is a cost ceiling worthwhile for a hamlet above Bauma?

Because gradient, turning space and carrying distance on a slope have more influence on working time than on the valley floor. With a cost ceiling, you know after the viewing the maximum amount the invoice will reach. Without this agreement, we bill the actual time in 15-minute increments, with a minimum of three hours.

What preparation at home in Bauma saves time on moving day?

Packed and labelled boxes, defrosted freezers and a clear path between the front door and the van, including in the yard or forecourt. Also decide which furniture our carpenters should dismantle and what goes for disposal. That way, for a house on a slope, the team can start carrying right away.
