Getting to know Niederglatt

Niederglatt is a compact municipality: on just 3.60 km², exactly 5,513 people lived here on 31 December 2025. The village lies at 411 m above sea level in the Zurich Unterland and belongs to the Dielsdorf district. To the north-west lies the Neeracherried, at around 105 hectares one of the last large fens in Switzerland. With so many inhabitants on so little land, the space in front of the building matters for every move. The oldest surviving mention dates from 1141, as "Niderunglatto". From 1442 to 1798 the area belonged to the Obervogtei Neuamt (bailiwick), and only in 1840 was Niederglatt separated from Niederhasli to become a political municipality in its own right. It was originally a farming village. After the railways to the Wehntal and to Bülach were built, industrial companies settled here around 1900.
