Zuzwil is first mentioned in 761 as «Zozinvilare». Leuberg Castle north-east of the village was destroyed together with the village in 1403 during the Appenzell Wars and in 1445 during the Old Zurich War. Until 1803, Züberwangen and Weieren were independent municipalities. Today, Zuzwil comprises:
