Getting to know Sevelen
Moving Company Sevelen: from the Rhine Valley up to the Sevelerberg
Sevelen covers 30.34 km², from the valley floor in the Rhine Valley up to the Sevelerberg on the slopes of the Alvier group. On 31 December 2025, 5,405 people lived in the municipality. Besides the village, it includes the hamlets of Rans, Oberräfis, St. Ulrich, Välsli and Glaat, as well as individual farms on the Sevelerberg. The lowest point is at 451 m above sea level by the Rhine, the highest, the Fulfirst, at 2383 m on the border with Walenstadt. As movers in Sevelen, we plan differently for each of these locations.

A village rebuilt after 1892
On a night of föhn wind in March 1892, a fire broke out in Sevelen that destroyed 76 houses and the church. The Reformed church was rebuilt except for the choir. A large part of the village had to be rebuilt at that time. The place was first mentioned in 1208 as «Seuellun», and finds from the Horgen culture, Bronze Age hilltop settlements and remains of Roman roads bear witness to much older settlement.
With the County of Werdenberg, Sevelen passed to Glarus in 1517, whose bailiffs ruled until 1798. Since 1803 Sevelen has been a political municipality of the canton of St. Gallen. The old covered wooden bridge to Vaduz is now a protected monument and since 1973 has been used only by pedestrians and cyclists; road traffic uses the concrete bridge of 1972/73 further upstream. There is also the connection to the A13.
Industry and trade
Embroidery factories were established from the 1870s and 1880s onwards. After embroidery rapidly collapsed from 1921, Sevelen had the highest unemployment rate in the canton in 1935 and 1936. In 2005 the secondary sector provided almost 60 % of the jobs in the municipality.
