Getting to know Zufikon
Moving company Zufikon: from the Reuss plain up to the Mutschellen
Until around 1960, vines grew on the south-west slope of the Mutschellen. Then a building boom began, and the entire slope was covered almost without gaps by residential buildings. Within fifty years, the population rose almost fivefold, and at the end of 2025, 4,960 people lived in Zufikon. Today the municipality has grown together with Bremgarten, Widen and Berikon.
Two worlds: plain and slope
The historic village centre consists of the Oberdorf (upper village) and the Unterdorf (lower village), around 300 metres apart. Both lie at about 405 m above sea level on the edge of the plain east of the Reuss. To the east, the ground rises steeply to the plateau of the Holzbirrliberg, and to the north-east to the Mutschellen pass. The highest point lies below the Mutschellen at 542 m above sea level, the lowest by the Reuss at 373 m.
This difference in altitude makes a real difference for your move:

Power station, chapel and Flachsee
On the Reuss, Escher-Wyss built the Bremgarten-Zufikon power station in 1893/94, the first three-phase hydroelectric power station in Europe; in 1975 it was replaced by a more modern plant. Right next to it stands the Emaus chapel, built from 1552 to 1556, with three Baroque picture cycles. The parish church of St. Martin was rebuilt from 1865 to 1868, while its medieval church tower was preserved. At the southern end of the village lies the Flachsee nature and bird reserve, linked to Hermetschwil by the Dominilochsteg footbridge, and the Emauswald on the Reuss is an oak forest reserve. To the east rises the Sädel, Zufikon's local hill, with views over the Reuss valley to the Jura heights.
One village, formerly divided
After 1415, the part of the village north of the church tower belonged to the County of Baden, the southern part to the Zurich Kelleramt. Only in 1798 did the reunited parts form a single municipality. Today the Bremgarten-Dietikon railway, running since 1 May 1902, connects Zufikon with the Limmat valley.
