Getting to know Aarau

Aarau has been the capital of the canton of Aargau since 1803, and from March to September 1798 the town was even the first capital of Switzerland. Today 22,710 people live here (as of the end of 2024); since 2024 Aarau has been the second most populous municipality in the canton after Baden. Our base in Wallisellen is around 41 km away as the crow flies.
Old town on a limestone outcrop
The old town, with its baroque gabled houses and late Gothic rows of houses, stands on a limestone outcrop that drops steeply on two sides and juts out into the floodplain of the Aare valley. In a historic town centre like this, every metre between the front door and the van counts. Between the Hungerberg and the upper terrace

Rohr has been part of the town since 2010. On the flat gravel plain it is less about gradients and more about free space in front of the building, which we have reserved in good time.
