Locals call the left shore of Lake Zurich the «Pfnüselküschte» (sniffle coast), and Oberrieden lies right in the middle of it. The village climbs up the slope from the water in several terraces. Little area, a lot of height difference
At 276 hectares, Oberrieden is one of the small municipalities on the lake, and 42% of it is forest. 5,392 people live on the rest (as of 2024). A move within the village can therefore mean changing from a lower to an upper terrace or the other way round.
