Schlieren first exceeded 10'000 inhabitants in 1960; today it has more than 20'500 – hardly any town in the Limmat Valley is growing as fast. In the old town centre around the Reformed church with its 15th-century choir tower, the lanes are narrow, while in Geissweid, Unterrohr and Waldegg the streets are wider, although parking around Limmattal Hospital is scarce at peak times.

Getting to know Schlieren

Schlieren has 20,474 inhabitants (as of 2025). The town only passed the 20,000 mark in 2022, and the 10,000 mark in 1960. This growth was driven by its proximity to Zurich and good connections: by tram until 1956, then by trolleybus, which was replaced by the Limmattalbahn light rail in 2022.
