Moving in Uitikon: what we pay attention to
Uitikon lies in the Dietikon district at the foot of the Üetliberg and borders Birmensdorf, Stallikon, Urdorf, Schlieren and the city of Zurich. The Uitikon municipal administration is responsible for the use of public land – including a no-parking zone for moving day – specifically the Security and Traffic department; for access related to construction, Building and Planning/Civil Engineering is the right contact. There is no municipal police force of its own; the Zurich cantonal police provide the local presence. We take care of the application for you.
The municipality consists of the three districts of Uitikon, Waldegg and Ringlikon, with Ringlikon only incorporated in 1917. The Reformed church was built in 1625 by Hans Jakob Steiner, and the neighbouring Uitikon Castle was built between 1624 and 1626 as a manorial seat and served as a workhouse from 1874. Remains of a Roman villa rustica with a frigidarium are on display in the village centre. Waldegg and Ringlikon have their own stations on the Uetliberg railway S10, and bus route 201 runs to Schlieren. The unique spelling «Uitikon» was deliberately retained in 1951 to avoid confusion with Uetikon am See.

Getting to know Uitikon

Uitikon lies at around 550 m above sea level, a good 150 metres higher than neighbouring Schlieren on the floor of the Limmat valley. The municipality in the lower Reppischtal looks strongly towards the city of Zurich for work, shopping and culture. Its population stands at 5,105 (as of 2022). The municipality also has its own indoor swimming pool, an observatory and a redesigned village centre with a community hall and retirement flats.
History is packed into a small space here: the Reformed church was built in 1625 on the orders of the local magistrate Hans Jakob Steiner; after a reproving sermon it was under roof in just six weeks, making Uitikon the first municipality with a post-Reformation church building. From 1956 to 1967 Ernst Sieber preached here.

Nobody needs to go in person: we submit the application in writing to the safety and traffic department, and the Kommunalpolizei Uitikon reviews it.
