Muri is not a municipality that grew from a single village core. It was formed in 1816 from the merger of Langdorf, Egg, Hasli and Wey, triggered by the bankruptcy of Hasli. At the foot of the Lindenberg
To the west, the terrain rises evenly towards the Lindenberg; to the south it becomes undulating and is divided by two deeply cut stream valleys. To the east, the ridge of the Wagenrain forms the transition to the Reuss valley. Over 200 metres of altitude separate the lowest point in the Büelmoos (432 m above sea level) from the highest above the gorge on the Sörikerbach (635 m above sea level). Monastery, administration, railway
Count Radbot of Habsburg and Ita of Lorraine founded the monastery in 1027; for a long time it was regarded as the richest monastery in Switzerland.
