Getting to know Suhr
Moving company Suhr: living and working where the Wyna flows in
Aarau was in fact founded on Suhr land: the Counts of Kyburg established the town within Suhr's original parish, and until 1568 Aarau still belonged to the parish of Suhr. Today the built-up areas of both places have merged completely, as has Buchs. At the end of 2025 Suhr had exactly 11,760 inhabitants; since 1850 the population has increased more than sevenfold.
Plain, church hill and the Berg to the south
Most of the village lies on a wide plain on the Suhre, just before the Wyna joins it. At the edges, however, there are also hills: the Suhrerchopf (465 m above sea level) to the west, the Oberholz to the east and, to the south, the «Berg», which at 570 m above sea level is the highest point. The Reformed church from 1495 stands on a spur of the hill, and a stone arch bridge has crossed the Wyna since 1770.
