When people in this municipality say «Zell», they rarely mean just the village. Zell in the Winterthur district consists of several districts, and the district of Zell is not even the largest. Most people live in Kollbrunn, around 3070, followed by Rikon with around 1720, Zell with around 1020 and Rämismühle with around 610. Spinning mills, corn mills and a monastery
In the upper Tösstal, mechanisation began in 1817 with the lower mill in Rikon. Later, spinning mills shaped Rämismühle and Kollbrunn; they were closed between 1980 and 2010. Since 1968 the Tibet Institute has stood in Rikon, and near Kollbrunn lies the Tüfels Chilen, a spring tufa formation that developed from two former quarries. From Rämismühle-Zell station the Paul-Burkhard-Weg leads to Zell, named after the composer who spent his later years there.
