Getting to know Horgen
Moving company Horgen: from the lakeshore over the Zimmerberg to the Albis
Horgen has been the capital of the district of the same name since 1831 and, at 30.83 km², is its second-largest municipality. Its territory stretches from the left shore of Lake Zurich across the Sihl valley to the Albis ridge, and in the south as far as the Sihlsprung gorge. 24,549 people live here (as of 2024). From the village at 418 metres up to the Hirzel
The village centre, with the administration, shops and Horgen See station, lies at 418 m above sea level and is mostly built in a modern urban style. Oberdorf developed with the Zurich–Zug railway line; its station is at 483 m above sea level, and its centre is the Bergli-Platz. Higher still are the hamlets on the Horgenberg between 560 and 696 m above sea level and the Hirzel at around 700 m, which has belonged to Horgen again since the 2018 merger.

In Käpfnach, once shaped by farming, winegrowing and the mine, several large housing projects have been built. In the Tannenbach area on the border with Oberrieden stands Spital Zimmerberg (hospital) with a retirement residence next to it. In the Sihl valley, near the hamlet of Sihlwald, lies the Wildnispark Zürich (wilderness park). Incidentally, the Neolithic Horgen culture is named after Horgen. On the Hirzel, the Hirzel Pass has always been the lifeline of this part of the municipality.
