A village in the Biber valley and five districts with their own postcodes: in Thayngen every move starts with the exact address and ends with the handover.
Whether Hofen, Bibern or Opfertshofen: we note the district and its own postcode, carry out a free viewing and then send you the quote.
If the van needs public ground, we submit the application to the responsible office of the municipality, which looks after all six places; the authority bills the costs.
We drop off boxes and packing materials; label the boxes by room so that every item ends up in the right room at the destination.
In the Biber valley the routes are flat; on the slope towards the Chapf, gradient and van size count – we fix both before moving day.
Whether from Barzheim to Schaffhausen or from Altdorf to Neuhausen am Rheinfall: the load travels secured, and floors and stairs are protected.
Our carpenters assemble the furniture at the destination; we relocate Thayngen businesses while operations are paused and move files along as an archive removal.
Whatever is not coming along, such as old garden furniture, we take away for disposal; after the optional end-of-tenancy cleaning you hand over the flat.
The cantonal handbook for residents' registration offices specifies a registration deadline of 14 days. Registration can be done via eUmzugCH (online change of address); in Hofen or Bibern, give your district's own postcode.
For your letters, set up mail forwarding 4 working days before moving day or earlier. You do not need to contact Serafe (radio/TV licence fee), as the Einwohnerkontrolle (residents' registration office) passes on your address automatically.
For 2025, the tax rate for individuals in Thayngen is 92 %. For comparison in 2025: Schaffhausen 86 %. Thayngen is therefore higher than Schaffhausen.
If the removal van needs to stand on public ground in the village or in a district such as Barzheim, we submit the application free of charge to the responsible office in Thayngen; the fee goes directly from the authority to you.
We load furniture and bulky waste you no longer need separately during your move in Thayngen. For disposal we charge CHF 65.– per m³, plus labour; the municipality of Thayngen provides information on small quantities.
Thayngen is around 37 km from Wallisellen as the crow flies; we count the journey there and back as working time. Within the municipality it makes a difference whether you live on the floor of the Biber valley at 437 m above sea level, on the slope towards the Chapf or in a district such as Barzheim, Bibern or Opfertshofen. We check access and carrying route during the free viewing, and the quote follows within 24 hours.

Every move in Thayngen starts with us taking a look at the local conditions: access, floors, parking and the route to the removal van. Thayngen lies in the Reiat, north-east of the city of Schaffhausen, in the valley formed by the small river Biber. Thayngen has a longer border with Germany (12 km) than with the rest of Switzerland (7 km); the station on the High Rhine Railway is served by the S24 to Schaffhausen–Winterthur–Zurich Airport.
Whether in the centre or in Altdorf, Barzheim, Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen: we clarify access and space conditions during the on-site survey before every move.
Thayngen grew in two steps. On 1 January 2004 the previously independent municipality of Barzheim joined, followed on 1 January 2009 by Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen. Since then all six places have been administered centrally in Thayngen. The municipality covers just under 20 km², had 5,453 inhabitants (as of 2018) and lies around 37 km from our base in Wallisellen as the crow flies.
The merger agreement stipulated that the former municipalities would become districts but keep their postcodes. For a removals company in Thayngen this is an important point: an address in Hofen or Opfertshofen belongs politically to Thayngen but still has its own postcode. That is why we record the district and postcode with every enquiry.
Thayngen lies in the Reiat, north-east of the town of Schaffhausen. The valley was formed by the small river Biber, and on the north side the Chapf, at about 550 m above sea level, towers over the village, which itself lies at 437 m. Between the valley floor and the slope, we clarify during the free viewing, on site or by WhatsApp video:
You can book furniture assembly, end-of-tenancy cleaning and disposal at the same time, and if moving out and moving in do not coincide, we take care of furniture storage.
West of the village lies the Kesslerloch cave, where reindeer hunters lived more than 10,000 years ago; it is considered one of the most important sites in Switzerland from this period. South of Thayngen, in the Weier area, pile dwellings stood around 3900 to 3500 BC; they have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, and finds are on display in the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen. During the Swabian War in 1499, the young Götz von Berlichingen witnessed the "Thaynger Sturm" (storming of Thayngen) and later described it in his autobiography. On 25 December 1944, Thayngen was bombed due to a navigation error instead of Singen, around 10 km away; the brickworks south of the station was almost completely destroyed.
For local businesses, our movers carry out office and business relocations outside working hours. On request we schedule private moves on a Saturday, with no Saturday surcharge.
If you are moving from the Reiat to the cantonal capital, you will also find us as the removals company for Schaffhausen; we likewise handle a move to Neuhausen am Rheinfall in the same canton. Your moving company in Thayngen sends you the quote within 24 hours.
Do you also move households to Barzheim, Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen?
Yes. Barzheim has been part of Thayngen since 2004, and Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen since 2009. The districts have kept their own postcodes; we record them with your enquiry and clarify the loading space and carrying route during the viewing.
How do you plan a move on the slopes of the Chapf?
The Chapf towers over Thayngen on the north side at about 550 m above sea level. For hillside addresses we check access and vehicle size during the viewing and decide whether a furniture lift makes sense.
Thayngen shares a 12 km border with Germany and, since the mergers of 2004 and 2009, has comprised six places in the Reiat. Before every move we therefore clarify access and the position of the house individually.
The Biber formed the valley in which the village lies at 437 metres; to the north the Chapf rises to around 550 metres. On the valley floor short carrying routes matter; on the slope towards the Chapf, gradient and vehicle size come into play as well.
Barzheim joined in 2004, and Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen and Opfertshofen in the Lower Reiat followed in 2009. We determine the vehicle and loading space for each of these villages after the viewing, so the van reaches the house without detours.
A loading space in front of the house can be reserved on public ground; we submit the application to the responsible office in Thayngen. The authority bills any costs directly to you.
We load bulky items such as chests of drawers or garden furniture separately on moving day and dispose of them properly for CHF 65.– per m³. The municipality of Thayngen provides information on collection points for small quantities.
The municipality presents itself as a business location, and by its own account many companies have chosen Thayngen. Your business moves with us outside working hours, and we relocate folders and files as an archive removal.
Towards the cantonal capital we move households to Schaffhausen, Neuhausen am Rheinfall or Beringen. We also handle moves between the Reiat districts of Altdorf, Bibern, Hofen, Opfertshofen and Barzheim.

We take care of both: the export clearance at Swiss customs and the import clearance into Germany. It is based on an inventory list that we draw up with you. For duty exemption in Germany, you apply using form 0350. According to German customs, alcohol and tobacco are not part of duty-free removal goods and are listed separately.
In the opposite direction it is just as much a one-stop service: we load in Germany, handle the export there and the import into Switzerland. We draw up the inventory list of your household goods together before moving day. Which documents Swiss customs will want to see in your case, we discuss during the free viewing.
Ideally in a separate room or corner, clearly marked, for example with coloured tape. That way nobody accidentally loads an item that is meant to stay or be disposed of. Show the team this corner at the start of moving day, and loading will run without any queries.
A few days before moving day, so that we can check it for the customs declaration. We start it during the viewing and complete it once everything is packed. Have purchase receipts ready for more valuable furniture and appliances, as they serve as proof. List alcohol, tobacco and professional equipment separately.
The day before. Use up your supplies, defrost the appliance and wipe it dry; then leave the door slightly open. At the new place, the fridge should stand upright for a few hours before you switch it on, so the refrigerant can settle.
Less than the different postcodes might suggest: both places belong to Thayngen and are administered centrally. We apply for the loading space at both addresses with the same municipality, and there is no need to deregister in another place. The only important thing is that your insurer and Swiss Post receive the new postcode correctly.
ID documents, tenancy agreement, employment contract and customs papers belong in your own bag, not in the removal van. Add insurance policies, certificates and bank documents. That way you have everything to hand if authorities on either side of the border want to see proof.
