Getting to know Sargans
Moving company Sargans: from the castle town up to Prod
At Sargans the Alpine Rhine valley turns, and the Seez valley opens towards Lake Zurich with no significant difference in altitude. At this «double gateway to the Alps», settlements and transport routes have been concentrated since Roman times. Today railway lines and the A3/A13 motorway junction meet here. A little town with a castle and moat
Around 1260 the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans founded the little town. In 1445 it was razed to its foundations in the Old Zurich War, and in 1811 it was destroyed again by a town fire. The main sight is Sargans Castle, the landmark of the Sarganserland and since 1966 home to the Museum Sarganserland, which was named «European Museum of the Year» in 1984. On the edge of the old town, in an elevated position, stands the Catholic church of St. Oswald & Cassian. Since 2009 the little town has provided the backdrop for the Sarganser Mittelaltertage (medieval festival), and the municipal coat of arms shows a goose.

Sargans is a transport hub, regional centre and place of education. The Kantonsschule (upper secondary school), founded in 1963 as the canton's first rural grammar school, teaches around 750 pupils.
