Getting to know Bremgarten

Hardly any town in Aargau is shaped as strongly by its river as Bremgarten. The Reuss first flows north-west along the south side of the old town, makes a wide 270-degree curve and then passes the north side again. The narrowest point of the Au peninsula, where the old town stands on a moraine up to 30 metres high, is no wider than 250 metres. With 8,871 inhabitants (as of the end of 2024), Bremgarten is the second most populous municipality in the Freiamt after Wohlen.
Upper town, lower town and the peninsulas
The old town grew around 1200 out of two small settlements: Villingen on the rocky spur, today's upper town, and Bremgarten on both sides of the river, which partly corresponds to today's lower town. Today the historic core is traffic-calmed. For a move in the old town this means:
