Kilchberg's actual origin lies in Bendlikon: at the end of the 5th century, the Alemannic settler Bankilo made his home at the mouth of the Dorfbach stream. Alongside the farmers, who until the 17th century lived mainly from winegrowing, the boatmen of Bendlikon handled traffic with the city of Zurich, and boats still call at the Bendlikon landing stage today.
