The big step – why moving to Switzerland is worth it
For many people, moving to Switzerland is a genuine dream come true. This small Alpine country impresses not only with its breathtaking scenery but also with a high quality of life, a stable economy and a very well-functioning healthcare system. But before you pack your suitcases, it is worth taking a closer look at what makes life in Switzerland so special.
High standard of living and safety
Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world. Clean cities, well-developed infrastructure and a strong social order mean that you quickly feel at home in everyday life. The healthcare system is also considered one of the best in Europe – although not the cheapest.
Career opportunities
Many international companies have their headquarters in cities such as Zurich, Basel or Geneva. There are numerous attractive job opportunities, particularly in pharmaceuticals, finance, IT and research. Well-qualified candidates often have very good prospects on the job market.
A variety of places to live
Whether city life in Zurich, an international atmosphere in Geneva or a peaceful mountain idyll in Valais – everyone can find the right place to live in Switzerland. The country may be small, but it is very diverse in terms of culture and landscape.
Conclusion: A move to Switzerland can be a great enrichment, both professionally and personally. Good preparation and realistic expectations will help you take this step successfully. Anyone taking this step in earnest should, in good time, plan an international move to Switzerland.

Frequently asked questions
Who handles customs clearance for household goods when moving to Switzerland?
We do: for international removals we take care of the entire customs clearance, meaning export from your country of origin and import into Switzerland. It is based on a complete inventory of your household goods, which we draw up together with you. That way the removal van is not stuck at the border while you are already starting your new job.
How do I bridge the gap if my flat in Switzerland is not available yet?
With furniture storage, which costs from CHF 15.– per m³ per month with us. Your furniture is kept in a dry, climate-controlled and alarm-protected warehouse until the flat is ready to move into. We then deliver everything to the new address, and our carpenters reassemble the furniture there.
Where should my passport, employment contract and lease travel when moving to Switzerland?
Always with you in your hand luggage, never in the removal van. You will need these documents close at hand during your first weeks in Switzerland, as well as proof of insurance, references and bank documents. Keep copies in a separate folder so you can still act if anything gets lost.
When should I declutter before moving to Switzerland?
Before the inventory of household goods is drawn up for customs. Anything you do not want to take with you is best sold, given away or disposed of while you are still in your country of origin. This keeps the list clear, the shipment smaller, and you do not pay to transport furniture that will not fit into the new flat.
What does labour cost when moving to Switzerland, and is there a cost ceiling?
We charge for the actual working time in 15-minute increments, with a minimum of 3 hours. If you prefer a fixed budget, we can give you a cost ceiling or a flat rate after the survey on request. You then know the maximum amount before moving day, even when the journey is a long one.
Which electrical appliances will not fit Swiss sockets after moving to Switzerland?
Appliances with the thick Schuko plug from Germany or Austria, because Switzerland uses type J sockets. Flat Europlugs usually fit, whereas round Schuko plugs do not. Plan for adapters, or have the plugs of built-in appliances replaced by a qualified electrician.
